In today's era of pursuing both nature and health, medicinal mushrooms have gradually become a shining star in the field of modern biotechnology due to their unique nutritional value and medical potential.Three types of mushrooms plus beta glucan have been shown to improve immune function.Mushrooms have been used medicinally around the world for centuries. They contain a compound called beta glucan, which has many health benefits, including antiviral and immune-boosting effects.
Studies of mushroom extracts and isolated beta glucans have shown that these nutrients can help boost immune defences against infectious diseases.

How effective is ultrasonic extraction on Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides?

The effect of ultrasonic extraction on Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides is remarkable in the following aspects:
Improvement of extraction rate: the ultrasonic method increased the polysaccharide extraction rate by more than 30% compared with the traditional hot water method, and the ultrasonic extraction method can extract polysaccharides from Ganoderma lucidum more efficiently.
Shortening of extraction time: the extraction time of ultrasonic method is nearly 3/4 shorter than that of traditional hot water method, which is a faster extraction method.
Optimisation of extraction conditions: The optimal process conditions for extracting polysaccharides from Ganoderma lucidum by ultrasonic method were material-liquid ratio of 1:15, extraction temperature of 60°C, ultrasonic time of 25 min and particle size of 60 mesh.
Molecular weight and structure: The molecular weight of ultrasonically extracted Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides was significantly lower than that of water extracted Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides, and the structure of ultrasonically extracted Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides was looser than that of water extracted polysaccharides as observed by atomic force microscopy (AFM).
Antioxidant activity: ultrasonically extracted Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides showed better antioxidant activity. The DPPH radical scavenging rate of ultrasonicated Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides reached 79.90%±0.30% at a polysaccharide concentration of 0.5 mg/mL, which was 1.3 times higher than that of the aqueous extraction; the reducing power reached 1.035±0.001 at a polysaccharide concentration of 0.9 mg/mL, which was 1.5 times higher than that of the aqueous extraction; and oxygen radical scavenging capacity (ORAC) was (2275.07±115.73 ) μmol Trolox/g, which was 1.8 times that of the aqueous extraction method.
Ultrasonic extraction increased the extraction rate of Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides, shortened the extraction time, and showed advantages in molecular weight, structure and antioxidant activity, which is an effective method of Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharide extraction.
