The Ethanol extraction system is a commonly used purification and refinement technique for extracting and purifying traditional Chinese medicines.

The main principle of this water extraction and alcohol precipitation method is that the medicinal materials are first extracted by water decoction, during which the water-soluble active ingredients such as alkaloids, organic acid salts, and amino acids are extracted out, while many water-soluble impurities are also extracted out at the same time.

The active ingredients are dissolved in ethanol to form an alcohol-sedimented supernatant, while the impurities are precipitated out to form waste residue, thereby achieving the goal of removing impurities while retaining the active ingredients of the drug.

Main structure

Solvent evaporation

Put the raw materials containing essential oils into the Ethanol extraction system, and add the appropriate solvent (such as ethanol, butane, etc.). By heating (such as steam heating), the solvent evaporates, and the essential oils will be carried out of the extraction tank along with the solvent vapor.

Condensation Recovery

The evaporated solvent vapor and the essential oil mixture enter the condenser, where they are cooled by the cooling medium (such as cooling water). The vapor condenses into liquid.

Separation and extraction

The condensed liquid enters the separator (such as an oil-water separator). Due to the different densities of essential oil and solvent, they will separate in the separator. Through the separator, essential oil and solvent can be separated, achieving the recovery of essential oil.
