What are the advantages and limitations of thin film evaporation compared to other evaporation technologies (e.g., boiling evaporation, spray drying)?

Thin film evaporation system compared with other evaporation technology (such as boiling evaporation, spray drying), has its unique advantages and limitations.

 

Advantages:

1. Thin film evaporation in the rotating scraper film evaporator to achieve the material flow and secondary steam flow of independent channels, this design significantly reduces the pressure loss, because the material is along the evaporation cylinder wall descending film down, while the secondary steam evaporated by the evaporation of evaporation surface from the cylinder in the centre of the space almost out of the evaporator.

2. In contrast to the conventional boiling evaporation technique, the film evaporation technique takes advantage of the properties of a high velocity updraft to eject the liquid and maintains an efficient heat transfer performance even at very high heat flow densities.

 

Limitations:

1. Although thin film evaporation technology can provide low pressure loss and efficient heat transfer performance in some cases, not all materials are suitable for treatment by means of thin film evaporation. This means that the range of applications for thin film evaporation technology may be limited.

Compared to spray drying technology, thin film evaporation technology may have disadvantages in terms of drying speed, product dispersion and solubility. Spray drying technology, by dispersing the material to be dried into mist-like droplets and exchanging them with a stream of hot air, enables rapid drying and the achievement of products with good dispersibility and solubility.
