Double Molecular Distillation is a special separation and purification technique applied to the separation of viscous substances with high boiling points, high viscosity and high concentration. This technique is performed in a high vacuum environment and utilises the difference in the mean free range of motion (λ) between molecules to achieve separation. Unlike conventional distillation methods, molecular distillation does not rely on boiling point differences, but instead separates by the properties of molecular motion.
Double Molecular Distillation equipment usually consists of the following parts:
Molecular evaporator: the core of the equipment, common types are falling film, scraping film and centrifugal.
Degassing system: to exclude the dissolved volatile components in the material.
Feeding system: conveying materials to the evaporator.
Heating System: Provides the heat required for evaporation of the material.
Cooling system: condenses the evaporated molecules.
Vacuum System: Maintains a high vacuum environment to ensure molecular distillation.
Control system: monitor and regulate the whole distillation process.
Double Molecular Distillation has a wide range of applications in petrochemical, food, pharmaceutical, spice, cosmetic and other industries. For example, in the food industry, it can be used to extract natural flavors and fragrances, deodorize fats and oils, and separate fatty acids, etc. In the pharmaceutical industry, it can be used to extract the active ingredients in Chinese herbs and separate antibiotics.
